The Five

As you may recall, we set 8 eggs for hatching. Of those, 1 was given to a customer by accident, one stopped developing, and one died during hatching, leaving us with the five chicks in the photo below.

Based on their coloring and wing feathers, I’m guessing they are all female. The one that died looked female too. Which is altogether weird, so I’m probably wrong, but I was 90% right on the last hatch.

In the unlikely chance I’m right, it might make up for the barred rock “hens” that are definately roosters. I had hoped starvation was making those emaciated chickens look like roosters, but no such luck. Time to start a barred rock breeding plan….
