Overnight at the farm

Sun setting behind the barn

To get a feel for what it’s going to be like living at the farm full-time, we recently camped out on the screened porch. Not exactly glamping, but the bugs were minimal.

Wow! The darkness was complete and the fireflies were so intense they were near distracting. I am not sure I’ve experienced such complete silence and total darkness in a house setting since I left rural Texas for Washington DC when I was 16.

It was awesome!

It is never dark or quiet in our apartment thanks to the security lights in the parking lot, and the many neighbors, especially the one that vacuum above us regularly between 11p-2a. For this and many other reasons, I am really looking forward to the farm.

We awoke to more silence at dawn as, unbelievably, no one nearby has appears to have a rooster. Sorry neighbors, that will soon change. The chickies are growing sooooo fast. We’ll have a chick update soon.
